Canela Figurines
Canela Figurines are Uniquely Singapore! No where else in the world can you find them than in the sunny island of Singapore.
The Canela Figurine is probably one of the world' most environmentally friendly gift derived from Mother Nature. The raw material is from wild cinnamon trees. The trees are harvested two to three times a year where the branches are cut into blocks and left to dry. The dry wood is then ground to fine powder which is mixed with water to make Canela dough.
Presenting a unique collection of Canela figurines of historical significance representing the Old Tradesmen Series in 19th Century Singapore.
Canela figurine making is a dying trade in Singapore. Unlike those made from clay, ceramics, porcelain or solid wood blocks which are heavier in weight, these figurines made of Canela are much lighter. When varnished, it gives the appearance of being created from wood craft. Each piece is unique because they are all hand-made. Thus although each piece is the same model it may differ slightly in weight and size.
